About Kilmuir

The land on which Kilmuir now stands was once part of the high-walled garden of a large Victorian property on Ballure Road.  The historic gazebo (summer-house) dates from that period and can be seen on many Victorian and Edwardian photos and postcards of old Ramsey.

The large building at the right hand end of Ballure Promenade was the Beach Hotel and to the left of that were flats and boarding houses.

At the beginning of the 1960s, the seaward end of the garden became a separate property on which the bungalow, Kilmuir, was built. In the 1970s the original Victorian house was replaced by an apartment block.

The present owners' family bought Kilmuir in the 1980s and extended it by adding the first floor accommodation.  In the 90s the Beach Hotel closed and was converted into apartments and the old boarding houses were demolished and also replaced by new apartments, the whole block now being known as The Fountains.

The bathing carriages and boarding houses are long gone, but so are the crowds of people, leaving a beautiful peaceful spot for a wonderfully relaxing holiday.
